We offer Try Dives at the Brecon Leisure Centre.

The starts at around 19:45 and finish at around 21:00. The try dives cost £25 (November 2024) which includes entry to the Leisure Centre and use of all the kit.
What do you need to bring?
- Swimming kit.
- T-Shirt you don't mind getting wet.
- 20p for the leisure centre lockers.
- Money, cash preferred although Bank Transfer to the club account is available.
Junior group Try Dives are available at just £10 each!
14 years and up, for groups of up to 10 juniors.
Dive Straight Into the BSAC Ocean Diver Course
Other than being a comfortable swimmer no previous experience required!

Training programme summary for Ocean Divers
Ocean diver is the introductory qualification enabling members to dive to 20 metres. The training includes theory and practical training.
A summary of the training is as follows:
Ocean diver theory lessons contain six modules.
These subjects are as follows:
- OT 1 An introduction to trainee divers about to undertake Ocean Diver training
- OT 2 Diving equipment and signals
- OT 3 The body and the effects of diving
- OT 4 Planning to go diving
- OT 5 Going diving
- OT 6 What happens if
At the end of the theory lessons a trainee will asked to sit a simple test to assess they have absorbed sufficient knowledge to keep them safe whilst diving in open water, and can then move on to open water training.
Practical training sessions will normally be run by the Club over the winter and spring months to ensure trainees have mastered the basic practical skills in the relative comfort of a swimming pool and are able to move on to open water training, suitably clad in protective clothing, during the spring and summer months when water temperatures are at their highest.
The Ocean Diver sheltered water(swimming pool) section of your qualification will be split into five sections.
The training includes:
- OS 1 Being Underwater
- OS 2 Basic Skills
- OS 3 Beyond the Basics
- OS 4 Developing Skills
- OS 5 Safety Skills
When you have finished the five sections of the BSAC Ocean Diver sheltered water syllabus you will undertake a pool assessment. This will show that you have gained the appropriate skills and experience to start your open water training.
Practical Open Water Training
This training will be carried out on a shore/boat dive normally in West Wales or at the National Dive Centre, Chepstow. The instructor can include any practical exercise, that he or she feels necessary, during these five dives.
- 001 The First Open Water Dive - equipment and buoyancy
- 002 The Second Open Water Dive - skills check and dive to 10m
- 003 The Third Open Water Dive - rescue skills and dive to 15m
- 004 The Fourth Open Water Dive - controlled ascents and dive to 20m
- 005 The Fifth Open Water Dive - dive leading and dive to 20m
On completion of these five dives you will be able to dive up to a maximum of 20m under the supervision of the Dive Manager.
